One of my birding stops today in Milwaukee County produced great views of a Barred Owl. It appeared to be just resting and did not mind my presence from a distance. It was a cloudy day, mild temps for this time of year around 40 degrees. Image was taken on December 29, 2023.

Jim, this is incredibly gorgeous! An understated assembly of feathers that at once soften, float, enclose, comfort, enchant! The deep-set eyes seem to convey contentment for the moment, perhaps for merely a sense of existence. This wild creature is my teacher, therapist, buddha.
