It was a fun day photographing the beauty of the Wood Ducks in Milwaukee County. They were very active at times and sometimes just doing nothing but hanging out. It was mostly sunny with steady north winds making it cold with temps at 36 degrees. Images were taken on March 28, 2024.

It was a fun day photographing the beauty of the Wood Ducks at a city park in Milwaukee. They were very active at times and sometimes just doing nothing but hanging out. It was mostly sunny with steady north winds making it cold with temps at 44 degrees. Images were taken on October 9, 2023

One of my birding stops today was Greenfield Park. Not much has been going on there but I saw a flock of Mallards land in on a little open water so I thought I would take a closer look. One beautiful looking male Wood Duck was in the flock swimming around with the Mallards. The Wood Duck seemed to be hanging with a female Mallard. Starting to look like a few birds are coming north. Also  I had nice looks at a Red-winged Blackbird. It was cloudy, no wind, nice temps around 43 degrees. Images were taken on February 20, 2023.

I had the opportunity to photograph some Wood Ducks and did not pass it up. These beautiful ducks gave nice views on a gorgeous sunny day  but with the wind it almost felt like winter. Images were taken on April 14, 2022.

One of my birding stops today gave nice looks at a pair of Wood Ducks. They were just swimming around doing their thing while I patiently observed their actions. The nice light this morning brought out the very best in Wood Duck breeding colors. It was a cool morning to start with stiff winds, never really got pleasant out. Wood Ducks and Green-winged Teal were the highlights on a trip down to Cook County Illinois. I was invited to go with Caron G and Sylvia P and with a great subject as the Wood Duck, I did not turn it down. It turned out it was a nice opportunity for photos of these beautiful ducks. The ducks were calm at this location for the most part, swimming around, hanging out and just being ducks. It was a gorgeous spring day, still winter coat weather, but the full sun eventuality warmed things up. Winds were calm with temps around 40 degrees. Images were taken on March 26, 2019

Checking out some birding spots in Waukesha County I was surprised to find a stunning Wood Duck drake just hanging out eating. It did not seem to mind me being there so I took a few images to share. Images were taken on June 2, 2016.

After reading the post of the male Wood Duck on the Pewaukee River in Pewaukee this afternoon I just had to check it out. This is just down the road when it comes to birding. It was present when I arrived with a few onlookers. It was hanging out with some Mallards. What a beautiful duck with its striking colors, oh my! A Red-tailed Hawk came in twice looking for dinner but left empty. A skateboarder came by and flushed all the ducks from the river with the sound of his board. A big thank you to Christine L for posting her find sharing it with others. It sure was nice to be out with some milder temps. Images were taken on March 7, 2015.
