Blue-grey Gnatcatcher and more at Wehr Nature Center in Milwaukee County Wisconsin on May 3, 2026

Migration is on and one of my birding stops this morning was Wehr Nature Center. All the crab apple and apple trees are in full bloom making a great photo opportunity if you can find some of the Blue-grey Gnatcatchers or warblers in them finding things to eat. Blue-grey Gnatcatchers were present along with a Nashville warbler and a flock of Cedar Waxwings came through briefly too. There was a 15 minute moment where that took place and then the birds disappeared for the rest of the time I was there. It was a mild morning but with some steady winds out of the south east, moistly sunny skies. Images were taken on May 3, 2026.

lucky you to get a gnatcatcher to sit still long enough to get those great shots – exciting time of year with migration in full swing, and so nice of you to share the beauty you have captured in images – thank you!

  2. Elaine Swanson says:

Jim, what a delight to see these colorful birds perched within flowering crabs – beautiful! The elegant cedar waxwing made of painted china sampling a fresh petal before it drops to the ground. It’s a morning made for a breakfast of spiders, insects, and petals. And in a matter of minutes, the diners have departed. Thank you for taking us along!
