American Bittern at Wehr Nature Center in Milwaukee County Wisconsin on May 8, 2026

Early this morning I heard rumblings of an American Bittern at Wehr Nature Center and since I was going there for warblers anyways I thought I would check it out. The bittern was present and giving nice looks from the warbler bridge there. Light was not the best for photos being early but the bird put on a great show moving around below the pond bank there. It eventually moved out into some cattails and out of sight. It was a nice day with some early sun and some winds came later. A few warblers were seen but pretty slow for this time of year. Images were taken on May 8, 2026.
